This weeks open match proved to be more of a challenge, as the Carp and Bream have been spawning as water temperatures really start to warm up.  During the day one pleasure angler had ten Bream, two Carp and a nice Tench in the morning from peg 21.  Come match time and anglers were struggling to match the weights of previous weeks.  Junior Timmy Pepper (14)  found some Bream to win easily with 25lbs spot on, to give him his first win on the Springside Lake after framing in many matches on there in the last year.   In second place was Andy Bray with 12lbs 13oz, just two fish , a Ghost Carp of 9lbs 2oz and a good Tench 3lbs 11oz.  In third was Rob Pepper on fancied peg 4, without a bite for two hours, he finally managed to snare three Bream for 11lbs 6oz.

Dents of Hilgay Norfolk was the venue for this years All England Junior Pole Championships.  Teams entered from all over the country, and were rewarded with one of the sunniest days of the year so far.   Fished on two lakes Willow and Farmshop Lake , with two sections on each lake from the teams of four anglers.  The Carp on Willows were in spawning mode, and the young anglers struggled to catch, only 24lbs was the top weight on the whole lake.

Farmshop Lake fished reasonbly well, with all anglers catching from the start, albeit mostly smaller roach up in the water.  The Skimmers never really wanted to feed in the bright sunlight.   On the team result Kings Lynn A.A. won with Suffolk County A.C. pushing them hard to come second.   Kings Lynn scored two section wins , one section second and seventh in section to ensure victory on there local water.

Individual winner came from Farmshop Lake , as did the second and third.  Toby Pepper (Kings Lynn) won from peg 30, putting 22lbs 15oz of silvers on the scales and a Carp of 14lb 4oz to give him the indvidual title.  In second place was Ryan Barker (Smartbaits Leeds) the former Browning youth master winner put 30lbs 7oz on the scales from fancied peg 26.  In third place was Jimmy Brooks (Kings Lynn) 27lbs 10oz from peg 15.

The Tuesday evening matches are going from strength to strength with over 20lbs average catch per angler.  This week Jimmy Brooks won with 46lbs 8oz from peg 5.   Fishing 13mtrs on the pole, Jimmy used 6mm expander pellet over a bed of feed pellet to catch Bream and Carp through out the 3 hour match.  Sonubaits F1 Groundbait seems to be the key to holding the fish for any length of time, though Sonubaits Feed Pellet is a good alternative.  It is essential that you book in to these matches as they become increasingly popular.  Burger Bar on site most weeks.

Hunstanton Tackle overcome there opponents in the 2nd Round of the Angling Times Supercup, fished on Snake Lake at Head Fen Ely, in pouring rain and high gusting winds.  With Hunstanton fielding no fewer than 4 juniors in there 8 man squad, they came up against hard opposition from both Norwich Union and Dersingham Blue (last years finalists).   Anglers all over the lake struggled to find fish, as the cold influx of water put fish off feeding.  Hunstanton rod and local up and coming star, Jimmy Brooks (age 17) winning indvidual honours with a well deserved 30lbs dead.  Timmy Pepper Hunstanton (13) was 3rd overall, which is nice to see we got some good young talent coming through.  Hunstanton scored 4 section wins , and had a total of 14pts to take them through to the Semi-Finals at Moorlands Farm Worcestershire on Saturday 5th June.  Can this mainly young squad go all the way, only time will tell now, certainly no lack of confidence shown as yet.

Team Result;  1st Hunstanton Tackle 14pts  2nd Dersingham Blue  16pts   3rd Norwich Union  19pts

Individual;  1st Jimmy Brooks  30lbs 0oz (Hunstanton)  2nd P.Cordy  24lbs 7oz (Norwich)  3rd Timmy Pepper 23lbs 4oz (Hunstanton)

Hunstanton Tackle fished there first round tie at Decoy Lakes Whittlesey on Six Island Lake.  They were up against experienced local rivals Dersingham Black A.C.   With half the lake covered in ice from the overnight frost,  the match had to be delayed for one hour before the match could start.  It was a very peggy but fair match with both sides scoring four section wins from there respective squads of eight.  With half of the Hunstanton squad  being junior anglers, who showed there true potential for the future, with Timmy Pepper and Toby Pepper  both winning there sections, and Darren Reed and Nick Wright winning there sections.   It all came down for the match to be decided on weight with Hunstanton Tackle weighing 127lbs 10oz to Dersingham Blacks 119lbs 3oz, just enough to scrape through to the next round.  Individual Winners ; 1st Nick Wright (Hunstanton) 46lbs 8oz  2nd Mark Henry (Dersingham) 40lbs 4oz  3rd Simon Smith (Dersingham) 32lbs 8oz .
