With light South Easterlies predicted we all knew this could be a good match but the resulting high pressure gave us clear skies and plummeting temperatures. A very chilly start with our first real match this winter with ice covering Salthouse beach car park. For most it was a careful early morning drive to the

With the wind , weather and sea conditions identical to our outstanding match at Cley 2 weeks earlier we were expecting some good sport and we were not disappointed. A rather depleted club gathering met at Salthouse beach car park for the first match of the winter season. With many having fought through torrential rain to make it on time and the remnants of hurricane katia about to head our way the omens were not good. The first match in September is always a

In keeping with the club’s attempts to try out new venues the club had selected the ’Iron Road’ at Salthouse for this fixture. A venue that is renowned at times for throwing up some decent bass along with some chunky flounders but would this be one of those days.

Brothers Blitz All England Junior Pole Championships 2011
23 of May 2011
Brothers Toby and Timmy Pepper gave a pole fishing masterclass at the All England Pole Championships at Westwood Lakes Boston on Saturday. Both drawn on Skylark Lake, Timmy peg 16 in A section and Toby on peg 34 in B section looking to retain his title that he won in this event last year and make history as the first angler to win back to back titles in the event. In windy conditions the whistle sounded for the start. Timmy went straight across at 13mtrs to the far bank and caught within seconds in just 8 inches of water on the shelf. Carp were his quarry, and he put 3 stocky Carp in the net in the first 5 minutes. He continued to do this through out the match, before switching to his margin swim to net some nice Tench and Carp just inches from the Bank. Toby on peg 34 was also catching well and had over 70 Ide and Barbel in his net at the 3 hour mark. Toby then lost a 5lbs+ Bream at the net, but kept a cool head under pressure and fishing worm over pellet went back on to his 13mtr line to net several Carp. Talk along the bank was the Pepper Brother’s were bagging on Skylark Lake and were going to win there sections with ease. As the final whistle went to signal the end of the match, most people thought the individual winner would come from Kestrel Lake were the bigger fish live. News soon filtered through that Josh Balodis (Suffolk County) had weighed 51lbs+ on Kestrel Lake winning his section and the Lake. With this weight to beat it came to Timmy to weigh first. Pulling his nets out and emptying them into the weigh sling, everyone waited for the steward to call his weight. After what seemed ages to call, the steward shouted 54lbs exactly. Timmy was leading, and the boy’s knew then one way or another the Individual title was coming back home with them again. By the time the scales reached Toby on peg 34, no one had weighed any were near enough to beat Timmy’s weight. Toby pulled his first net out and weighed 26lbs+ of silverfish. Only his Carp net could now win it for him. Emptying his Carp into the weigh sling everyone waited in silence for the steward to call the weight. The silence was broken as the steward shouted 54lbs 2oz. Toby had beat his brother by just 2oz and he had retained his title and history was made, not only back to back titles for Toby, but 1st and 2nd for the two brothers. Toby said afterwards ” even though I have won, we both won really, we win as a team, we lose as a team.” Thats how history was made “Brothers in Arms.” Well done boy’s
All England Junior Pole Championships
23 of May 2011
Hunstanton Tackle sent a team of four juniors to The All England Junior Pole Championships this week at Westwood Lakes Boston. After a full week of practising on the venue, they finished 2nd in the team event with 8pts, just being pipped by a strong worthy Suffolk County side, who won with 6pts. Excellent section performances came from Tom Carlton (2nd in section) and Callum Leveritt (4th in section) both on Kestrel Lake. Tom Carlton having not fished for a year and Callum Leveritt more used to fishing on Docking Clay Pit, they both adapted well, and kept cool heads with very good Suffolk County anglers pegged next door to them. Over on Skylark Lake was brothers Toby and Timmy Pepper who both won there sections, with ease as was expected of the pair. On the individual result we had a great result, I will put this up soon as it is a great story. The team would like to thank there sponsor Mick Cornell of Hunstanton Tackle for his continued support, team manager Rob Pepper and Mick Stamp (Preston Innovations/Sonubaits) for helping with the coaching.
